There is a great quote in this movie. At one point the sister says to her mother "That man in there is no longer my brother from this day forth." At which point the elderly mother, who comes from 5 generations of slaves, tells her something that we in our family all need to hear "When do you think is the time to love somebody most? When he's done good? And made thngs easy for everybody? No, no, no. That ain't the time at all. It's when he's at the lowest, and he can't believe in himself 'cause the world's done whipped him so.... When you starts measurin' someone, you make sure you measure right. You make sure you consider the hills and valleys that he's been through to get wherever he is."
